Learning objectives 19-22 May
When I attended LISLIG Western Cape workshop on the 20th of March 2008, at the SAAO auditorium, in Observatory, the hot topic, which was Web 2.0, presented by Dave, Duarte, More about Dave at http://daveduarte.co.za/about
My Learning objectives
Social media (e.g wikis, blogs etc). turn everyone into a publisher, author, other websites that can be used to create other than http://www.pbwiki.com/ are
http://www.wetpaint.com/ (wetpaint largest network of free wiki websites.)
http://www.wikispaces.com/ (create simple web pages that groups, friends, & families can edit together.)
http://wiki.mindtouch.com/ (is the most sophisticated wiki available today)Other blogging website besides the blogger.com is http://wordpress.org/ Other problems with pbwiki, is that it is impossible to copy and paste, because when I go to view for the information I have paste, does not appear. I prefer to type my information on word document and just copy and paste it.
I have also realize that if click links on frontage it give an errors, thanks Thea for picking that as well because I wasn’t sure what was the problem. When I hyperlink, the font have to be same both on frontpage and main page e.g if its caps, small letters.

Learning objectives from building a taxonomy
Learning objectives from building a taxonomy
Learning objectives from week 12-16 May 2008
Knowing that you need information taxonomy is one thing, but how to build it is another.
I have arranged my documents manually according to different categories, before automating it, to make it easy for me when I upload to the wiki. It would save time of deleting and editing. My intention is to structure the document, in the most accessible way, and relevant to the topic chosen. I have chosen a KM related topic, that I m thinking will be appropriate for my audience, who will be using the taxonomy.
There three different important things thing that I have to take in consideration when structuring this wiki;
Context, what is the purpose of the taxonomy? And how is taxonomy going be used?
What is the content scope? e.g. department within an organisation,
Who will be using the taxonomy? e.g. librarians.
The purpose of wiki is making librarians aware that knowledge sharing is possible (both tacit and explicit knowledge). There simple mechanism that can be used to share knowledge e.g. storytelling, one can undermine the terms by just hearing about it.
When we met my other classmates on a Saturday, it really showed me that knowledge sharing is powerful.

Taxomines
Learning objectives week 5-10 May 2008
Taxonomies improve the way we access information, reduce also information overload.
A specific documents can be arranged in different categories depending its usefulness.
To ensure that the information is regular and current it need to updated regularly.
Also reduce time spent looking for information, improve knowledge sharing, also provide easy navigation, less duplication which means, it help us not to reinvent the wheel.
I struggled the whole week to hyperlink, I have finally get it right, I can access my other pages i created from my frontpage or homepage.
I have added document but I can only add one at minute, If i add the next one it does work.
